Paradisum Cultura Nova 2026

Recirquel will be the star performer at the Dutch cultural festival

Recirquel will present its highly acclaimed production at the leading cultural festival in the Netherlands.

The audience of the Cultura Nova festival, which attracts around 100,000 visitors each year, will have the opportunity to see Bence Vági’s Paradisum three times between August 30 and September 1. The cirque danse production, which blends contemporary dance and circus arts, explores the myth of the world’s rebirth and a new form of human existence following global destruction. In recent years, Recirquel has gained significant recognition in the Netherlands, with the festival’s official posters featuring the Hungarian company’s performance to promote the ten-day event.

Last summer, Recirquel’s newest production, Paradisum, premiered to great acclaim at the world’s largest festival, the Edinburgh Fringe. Directed by Bence Vági, the show ran for three weeks to sold-out audiences in the Scottish capital, earning praise from critics. In November, it was selected among the nine most innovative contemporary productions at the CINARS Biennale performing arts expo.

Now, Paradisum will be showcased at another major international festival. The Hungarian company will perform at the 34th annual Cultura Nova festival, which draws around 100,000 visitors each year. The festival highlights pioneering forms of dance, music, film, and visual arts, with theater, film, and music productions presented over its ten-day program. The Dutch audience will see Paradisum three times, between August 30 and September 1, at the city’s main theater, the 1,100-seat Theater Heerlen.

Recirquel is a familiar name at the Netherlands’ leading cultural festival, which this year features the Hungarian company’s performance on its official platforms to attract visitors. This will be Recirquel’s fifth appearance at Cultura Nova: in 2021 with Solus Amor, in 2019 with My Land, in 2018 with Paris by Night, and in 2015 with The Naked Clown, which was a major audience success in Heerlen.

Blending contemporary dance and circus arts, Paradisum explores the myth of humanity’s rebirth after the world’s destruction, imagining how a new form of human existence might unfold. The performance envisions how these new beings emerge from the pulsating natural forces around them, passing through scenes of purification, birth, awakening, and ritual to reach the anima mundi, the “world spirit.” The production features six world-class acrobatic dancers. Its choreography, built on stunning contemporary circus and dance elements, expands the cirque danse genre that Recirquel has developed over recent years.

Hungarian audiences will have another chance to see Paradisum from September 5 at the Müpa Palace of Arts.
