Paradisum Pitch at the CINARS Biennale
Our most recent production, Paradisum, directed by Bence Vági, is presented before the directors and programmers of the world’s leading venues and festivals at the CINARS Biennale.
This international performing arts expo, held biennially in Montreal, features hundreds of companies and cultural productions from all around the world. As a result of the jury’s decision, Recirquel’s new performance has been selected, for the first time, for the Pitch Forum taking place on 12th November.
The CINARS (Conférence internationale des arts de la scène) Biennale, established thirty years ago, is one of the largest performing arts expos and festivals in the world. It showcases hundreds of companies and cultural productions from fifty countries. The festival traditionally focuses on modern dance and contemporary circus performances, alongside theatrical and musical productions. This year’s event, taking place from November 11th to 16th, is attended by around two thousand professionals, including leaders from the world’s largest cultural institutions—many theatres and festivals attend in order to select artistic productions for their future programming.
On the second day of the event, November 12th, the CINARS Pitch Forum takes place, where only nine productions, selected by the jury from hundreds of applicants, are presented. This year, our company’s newly debuted production also made it among the most innovative contemporary works; Artistic Director Bence Vági will present Paradisum before approximately 600 directors and programmers from leading cultural institutions worldwide.
“It is a great joy and pride that Paradisum is among the most promising innovative productions chosen by the jury, alongside works from France, Sweden, Canada, Australia, and Taiwan,” says Bence Vági.
Our company previously received significant attention at CINARS: in 2016 with Night Circus and in 2021 with My Landas part of the Biennale’s official program. Paradisum, directed by Bence Vági, is our latest production. The performance explores the myth of rebirth and a new form of human existence following the destruction of the world. Merging modern dance with circus arts, this cirque danse production debuted in August at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the world’s largest arts festival, where it received positive critical acclaim. According to a reviewer from The Guardian, Paradisum is a “visually stunning, beautiful performance, with every moment worthy of being photographed.”
In Hungary, the production also achieved great success in October at the Liszt Fest International Cultural Festival, when it played in the Müpa Tent, and is included among this year’s nominees for Highlights of Hungary.
Paradisum will next be shown in Hungary from January 15th 2025 at the Müpa Festival Theatre.
