Walk My World is in preparation with world-class artists and breathtaking acts
Acrobats soaring twenty meters through the air, artists suspended by their hair, a mythical hero breakdancing on crutches, and breathtaking parkour performers – rehearsals have begun!
The several-month-long rehearsal process of Walk My World has started in Budapest. Performers from four continents – North and South America, Australia, and Europe – have come together for what will be Europe’s largest immersive production. The cast includes world-class artists, award-winners from international festivals, and former members of leading Hungarian and international companies. The performers were selected through an extensive international casting process over several months. The production requires an exceptionally complex and diverse range of performance skills, so we were looking for multifaceted artists who, in addition to circus and dance technique, also possess a high level of acting ability.
Set in an immersive space reminiscent of a movie set, the well-known story from the ancient author Virgil’s epic comes to life through stunning dance and contemporary circus acts. Over the course of the evening-length production, the audience will see twenty different circus disciplines, including several rarely seen acts requiring exceptional technical skills. Featured elements include a Russian swing that propels artists up to twenty meters forward and ten meters high, hair suspension, solo and duo straps, aerial rope, Chinese pole, Rhönrad, Cyr wheel, ladder juggling, and custom-designed apparatuses developed specifically for Walk My World.
The performance also showcases a wide repertoire of contemporary dance: alongside ballet and contemporary forms, urban styles and contact improvisation play a key role. The production features highly technical and physically demanding dance and movement styles. Beyond dynamic, acrobatic parkour scenes, a unique highlight will be the appearance of a mythical hero dancing on crutches. This movement language, created by American dancer-choreographer Bill Shannon, merges street dance, hip-hop, breakdance, and contemporary dance elements.
Such a unique production demands equally unique preparation. Since May, the cast has been undergoing an intensive, months-long rehearsal period, participating in various technical and skill-based training sessions. These include acting classes, stunt and contact workshops, as well as masterclasses integrating contemporary, classical, and urban dance styles. Preparation is led by top-tier international and Hungarian professionals – including two former members of Brazil’s renowned Grupo Corpo, who are leading a special workshop introducing the performers to the unique movement style of the company’s co-founder and choreographer, Rodrigo Pederneiras.
Walk My World brings to life the mythological love story of Aeneas and Dido, from the Roman poet Virgil’s epic. The myth re-emerges in a completely new form, through a breathtaking fusion of contemporary circus and dance, delivering a multi-sensory, emotionally rich, and immersive experience.
The artistic concept of the production was developed by the creative team of Recirquel. All aspects of the visual design – set, costumes, music, lighting, and character development – are the work of Hungarian artists.
The captivating universe of Walk My World will open to the public in November 2025 at the Millenáris Building B (Nagycsarnok). Tickets are available on the show’s official website.
